Resolved Question: Why is the White House putting a gag order on the insurance industry but not the AARP?

No one, especially the White House, is putting a "gag order" on the insurance industry.

There is no gag order.

The investigation of Humana (ONE company) is being done by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which oversees the Medicare program.

The investigation is specifically looking at whether the health insurer violated marketing rules (and federal law) with letters and with an online program that automatically drafts letters to be sent to policymakers; basically doing political advocacy.

Humana is cooperating with the investigation, which said that the mailer should be stopped and the reference on its website be removed.

There is no gag order.

AARP is not an insurance company. They provide group purchasing ability with the Hartford Insurance Company.
